The Heart Behind Syfer

Syfer Technology & Creative (say it like cipher!) isn’t just a company—it’s our family name in disguise. Well, sort of.
The name “Syfer” is a nod to “Symons,” our actual last name and the fact that we have 4 in our family – shortened in notes and texts to just the ‘SY4’. Add in the mix ‘cipher’ because we believe technology shouldn’t feel like a code you can’t crack and thus: Syfer Technology & Creative (STC) was born.
We started STC with one goal: to make life simpler and businesses more secure for folks like us—small business owners, farmers, creatives, side-hustlers, parents—people with a lot on their plates and even more on the line.
Our roots are deep in the Upper Midwest—Minnesota and North Dakota—and so are our values: hard work, honesty, showing up when we say we will and never overcomplicating things just to sound smart. Whether it’s building a website for a rural housing authority or crafting a logo for someone’s lifelong dream, we bring the same heart to every project.
We don’t have investors. We don’t have a sales team. We have something better: a belief that small businesses deserve big-time quality and a trusted partner who gives a damn.
We’re Steve and Libby Symons—a husband-and-wife duo who’ve been working together for over 15 years (together since 2003!). Steve runs the tech side of things—network infrastructure, Microsoft 365 migrations, servers, cloud setups, all the things that make most people’s heads hurt (but make his heart sing). Libby leads the creative—branding, web design, logo work, social media, and making businesses look as good as they should look.
We’ve built this business from our kitchen table with a couple of laptops, two wild and wonderful kids, and a shared dream to use what we’re good at to help people get ahead.
We’ve named servers while cooking dinner. Pulled all-nighters before first days of school. Balanced laptops on farm equipment (true story). Syfer is personal for us. And if you work with us, your business becomes personal, too.
